The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society is searching for a full time Director to manage NCHS, and to run the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and the Historic Newnan Train Depot.

Position Title: Director 

Full time Position at the pleasure of the Board of Directors of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, a Georgia nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3).

Office Location: Newnan, Georgia 

Salary: Negotiable based on experience. Compensation split 75% Museum (Trust)/25% Society.

Description

Provides executive management for the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, facilities NCHS owns or uses by agreement (currently the McRitchie-Hollis Museum, the Historic Newnan Train Depot, and a Collections Building), staff, volunteers and programs on a day-to-day basis under the oversight and policy guidance of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society Board of Directors. Is the only NCHS employee reporting directly to the Board; hires, contracts, evaluates, promotes, and terminates all other personnel and volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Management

Ensure the continuous improvement of NCHS, its facilities and programs; work with the Board of Directors on short and long-term strategic planning, annual goals and objectives, and budgets; supervise NCHS staff, interns, contractors, and volunteers; develop annual budgets with Board Treasurer for Board approval, and collaborate with Board Treasurer to develop quarterly budget reports for Board meetings. Develop and implement a five-year strategic plan with the Board.

Communications

Responsible for marketing, outreach, and public relations to increase community awareness, donations of historic artifacts for collections and external funds/grants, NCHS memberships, fundraising support, and visitor attendance. Serve as NCHS spokesperson.

Partnership Development and Fundraising

Strengthen existing partnerships with City of Newnan/Trustee; community nonprofits, schools and colleges, and churches; and develop and grow new strategic partnerships. Secure external funds and grants in support of NCHS mission.

Facilities/Museum

Manage collections; develop exhibition content and opportunities for existing and new exhibits; improve revenue stream from Depot rentals; acquire new facilities in keeping with NCHS mission.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

– Expert (or able to become an expert) in the history of Coweta County, including knowledge specific to municipalities, communities, past events and residents.

– Effective manager, innovator, strategic goal setter; accomplished at implementing approved plans

– Excellent writer, speaker and presenter; a compelling communicator.

Minimum Qualifications

– BA/BS with three years of experience working in one or more of the following: management, communications, partnership development, fundraising, and museums; Master’s Degree preferred.

– Pass routine law enforcement background check.
