The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society is turning 50! In honor of the special anniversary, NCHS is asking all members, affiliates, and supporters to donate $50. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by June 29, 2022, the non-profit's official incorporation date. All funds raised will contribute to the expansion of the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and the installation of permanent exhibits that depict the history of Coweta County.

Your funds help the McRitchie-Hollis Museum under the direction of the Newnan Coweta Historical Society continue renovations and installations of permanent exhibits. During Phase One of our renovation project, NCHS staff installed the following exhibits,

  • “Meet the Locals" - This exhibit pays tribute to McRitchie-Hollis Museum benefactor Edgar Hollis, featuring letters, correspondence, and artifacts from his collection.  Items from other local collectors who have donated to the museum as well as the collections of current community members are also on display.
  • ."CoWEta Women at Work" - This exhibit recognizes and highlights women in and from Coweta County who contributed to their community and surrounding spaces in some notable way.
  • "For the Elevation of Women" - This exhibit pays tribute to Coweta County's educational history by spotlighting College Temple - the first women's college to offer a Master of Arts degree to women.
  • "A Newnan Girl Away at School" - This exhibit converted an inventory closet into a tribute to  Margaret Trapnell Glover and her time at Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College & State University). The small exhibit is designed to replicate a small college dorm and features artifacts from the Margaret Trapnell Glover collection. This exhibit was the winner of the Georgia Association for Museums' Best Exhibit Under $1,000 award in 2022.
